Evidently there were three palpable periods for Oromos at Mada Walabu.

 1) Period before the arrival of Islam: People had names of pure Oromo origin and dressed in purely Oromo fashion.

2) Mixed period (Sufi period?): With the arrival of Islam Oromos said, Islamummaan nama mataa badaaf maqaa badaa tolte. Roughly translated, Islam favored those with bad names and bad hair. E.g. Jaldo (Monkey) will be called Adam. Women would cover their hair.

3) Current period (Radical Islam?): Today it is hardly possible to find women who do not cover their hair and individuals whose name is not of Arab origin .
